Applications

Most UK visa refusals come down to evidence: missing documents, unclear bank statements or translations that are not accepted. This toolkit helps you build a file that is complete and easy to assess.

A person signing documents

Essentials

Documents almost every application needs.

  • A valid passport with a blank page, plus old passports showing travel history
  • Evidence of your reason for coming, such as a CAS, CoS or invitation letter
  • Financial evidence showing you can support yourself
  • Tuberculosis test results if you are from a listed country
  • Certified translations of anything not in English or Welsh

Financial evidence

Getting bank statements right.

  1. 01Statements should show your name, account number, bank logo and dates
  2. 02Cover the full period the rules require, with no gaps
  3. 03Explain any large or unusual deposits with supporting evidence
  4. 04If someone else is funding you, include their letter and proof of relationship
  5. 05Online statements may need to be stamped or accompanied by a bank letter

Translations

What a certified translation must include.

  • Confirmation it is an accurate translation of the original
  • The date of the translation
  • The translator’s full name and signature
  • The translator’s or company’s contact details
