Overview

What the family visa is for.

The family visa lets you live in the UK with a partner, spouse, child or parent who is a British or Irish citizen, settled in the UK, or has refugee or humanitarian protection status.

Partner applications are assessed on your relationship, your finances, your accommodation and your English language ability. Each part needs specific documents in a specific format, which is where most applications go wrong.

FAQ

Family visa questions.

Cannot find your answer? Email replies@myimmigration.uk or message us on WhatsApp.

We are not married. Can we still apply?

Yes, if you have been living together in a relationship similar to marriage for at least two years, or you are engaged and plan to marry in the UK.

Can savings be used instead of income?

In some cases, yes. Savings can be used alone or combined with income, subject to specific rules on amounts and how long they have been held.

Can my children come too?

Children can usually apply as dependants. Each child needs their own application with evidence of the relationship and care arrangements.
